Liam Gallagher has claimed that Oasis splitting up has helped the fortunes of Manchester City.
Hailing from Manchester, Oasis have always been closely linked with football. The Gallagher brothers were brought up to support Manchester City, and have never hidden a love of their hometown team.
Oasis played a celebratory show at the club's then home of Maine Road in 1996, with Noel Gallagher showcasing an iconic Union Jack guitar. Later returning to play the City Of Manchester stadium, the band sadly split after a tumultuous row backstage in France.
However as Oasis have fallen Manchester City has risen. A new owner, new players and a new management team have sent the club close to the top of the league.
A coincidence which seems to have sparked Liam Gallagher's curiosity. "When Oasis were doing well, City were doing shit," Gallagher told the Daily Mirror. "But now we've split, City are doing good. Maybe there's some good times ahead with City, and that'll take the pain of the band splitting off a bit."
Liam Gallagher is expected to launch his new musical venture this summer. Featuring several ex-members of Oasis, the new group are due to tour later this year.
Meanwhile Noel Gallagher is set to play two shows at London's Royal Albert Hall. The one time Oasis songsmith will only perform a pair of gigs this year, before knuckling down to a solo project.
