Oasis have been beaten by Muse and Arctic Monkeys in their bid for success at this year's Q Awards.

The recently-split band, whose guitarist Noel Gallagher quit in August, was beaten by Muse in the Best Act In The World Today category, while Arctic Monkeys were named Best Live Act.

Florence And The Machine also left empty-handed despite being nominated for three gongs.

Lady Gaga's catchy Just Dance won Best Video, but she was beaten in the Breakthrough Artist category by Mr Hudson. Lily Allen won Best Track for her hit The Fear, which gave her her second No 1 single.

Kasabian beat acts including Arctic Monkeys, U2 and The Prodigy to win Best Album, for the Mercury Prize-nominated West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

Music legends whose influence spanned the generations were also honoured. Robert Plant won the Outstanding Contribution To Music award, while Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, received the Classic Songwriter gong.

Jarvis c**ker presented the Q Icon award to Marianne Faithfull, while The Specials picked up an Inspiration award.

U2's The Unforgettable Fire received the Classic Album award - and Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax, which had an unofficial Radio 1 ban, was named a Classic Song.

Spandau Ballet, who recently got back together, received the Q Idol gong and Edwyn Collins was named a Q Legend, picking up his award from The Cribs.

White Lies received a Best New Act award from synth pop hero Gary Numan, while Sonic Youth won an accolade for Innovation In Sound.
