My first Oasis concert and not the last..., 27/02/2006, by DaVincentCode |
I arrived at the Singapore Indoor Stadium at about 5 PM, a full 3 hours before the official concert start time at 8PM. I was lucky to grab a nice standing spot right in front of Noel Gallagher. Thank goodness I got that spot. If I came any later, I wouldn't be able to see anything because I am only 5ft 7". There wasn't any widescreen at the stage setting. It was really very basic, just a bunch of speakers, instruments, and lights.
I knew Oasis were going to be late because I have never been to a concert where the singers started on time. To my surprise, Oasis were pretty early, they walked on stage about 8:30PM to the thumping music of f***in' in the Bushes...
Liam wore something like a "striped suit" and a pair of denim jeans. He looked a like a million dollars as usual. He walked onstage and stood at the front of the stage with his tambourine in his mouth for a few seconds before the song "Turn Up The Sun" started.
The set list on the right might not be in the right order... I can only confirm the 1st few songs and the last song are in the right sequence. The songs in the middle might not in the right sequence but there were definitely played that night.
Liam was in pretty good mood that night and his voice was top! In the middle of Lyla, he sang "I waited for a thousand years for you to f*** me out my mind", and covered his mouth after saying the f-word, implying "Am I allowed to do that in Singapore?".
That was funny.
In between songs I couldn't quite understand what Liam was blabbing about. I only catched the word "Cheers". I think Liam was either complaining about the microphone or the speakers to the people backstage or something. That was the only thing that prevented this concert from being a 5 star Oasis gig. I don't blame Oasis, I blame the lousy Singapore Indoor Stadium. All the concerts I've been to at this venue were held back by the lousy sound system.
Liam also customized his lyrics during the song "Cigarettes and Alcohol" by singing "All I need are cigarettes and Singapore!". I could feel he was really trying to connect with the Singapore audience in his own way. He threw a tambourine into the crowd before the first break. At least he did something. Noel was sulking all night. Maybe Liam pissed him off earlier in the day?
Before the song "Rock 'n' Roll Star", Liam said it was the last song. I knew he wasn't serious. The band must have went backstage for a little break. They came back and played a couple more songs.
I noticed the 2 ladies standing in front me held a UK flag and a poster that read "Make me pregnant Liam, my boyfriend says its ok". I am sure they caught the attention of Liam. There were crazy for most of concert. One of their boyfriends smuggled a can of beer in an empty Pringles can... They somehow requested the security to bring them a cup of plain water and they poured beer into the cup to drink it!
At the closing moments of the last song, "My Generation", Liam actually invited one of the 2 ladies to the stage. It was a funny sight seeing the security push her upstage. Liam gave her his tambourine and nice hug. She went around hugging Andy and Noel. Noel was adjusting the pedals on the floor when she literally bear hugged him and kissed him on his cheek! Noel didn't seem to give a damn about her. Her friends threw the UK flag onto the stage and she jumped up and down waving the UK flag and slapping the tambourine to her leg till the end of the song.
I have never seen anything like this in Singapore. Oasis were the last guys on earth I would expect to invite someone to the stage. Well, that was a surprise! Liam was unusually friendly that night!
Tip for women, stand right in front of Liam with a poster or shirt that reads "Make me pregnant Liam, my boyfriend says its ok". It worked for this lady, it just might work for you! |
