Best album since Be Here Now, 26/11/2008, by Toxodon |
I originally wrote this review for rateyourmusic.com
'Dig Out Your Soul' is definitely Oasis' best album since 'Be Here Now'. From start to finish it is a pleasure to listen to. It does focus a lot more on the grooves. 'The Shock Of The Lightning' is a brilliant first single and Liam Gallagher has finally reached the level of being a great songwriter with 'I'm Outta Time' and 'Ain't Got Nothin'' (which do sound a lot like John Lennon and The Who respectively but still Oasis). 'Falling Down' is another Noel-sung masterpiece growing on the songs he sang on the previous album. If I had to pick a least favourite moment from the album it would probably be 'Waiting For The Rapture' whose intro is so similar to The Doors' 'Five To One' that it made me a bit uncomfortable when first listening to it. Aside from that, the rest of the album rocks. My favourite songs are 'The Shock Of The Lightning', 'Falling Down', 'I'm Outta Time' and 'To Be Where There's Life'. |

What Be Here Now should've been..., 20/11/2008, by Rotterdam |
| This album is what Be Here Now should´ve been. The only songs i dislike are Soldier On and High Horse Lady. All other songs are of pure quality. From the Beatles-like 'Waiting for the rapture' to the Oasis 1994-like 'Shock of the lightning'. Nuff said. |

Could have been better, 16/10/2008, by BliZZard |
The album is solid but it did not live up to the expectations I was hoping for. I loved the album (aside from AGN and TNOR), it was a slight change in sound (if it was any other band I'd say no change in sound, but for oasis this is a bit of a step). I enjoy the effort to make it more groovey.
My opinion of the album took a huge dive after hearing the Bonus Disk and listening to I Believe in All and Boy With the Blues. Why those two songs were left off the album is beyond me. Swtich those two for the other two I previously menionted and I think you have one of Oasis' best albums, but as many others have pointed out, the album just fizzles away at the end.
Overall I'm giving it a 5 because I dont think it deserves a 4, and there is no "half star" option.
It should have and could have been much better... |

Pure Quality, 14/10/2008, by freedom35 |
I love this album, everything is 5 stars, from the album artwork to the cd design. So f***ing different from the rest, but still has the quality that makes Oasis.
'The shock of the lightning' and 'i'm outta time' are classics already in my view, i love listening to this album all the way thru, makes me feel f***ing electric. |

Good songs, poor album, 08/10/2008, by dhmm |
Maybe poor is not the exact word but i am a bit dissapointed. The first half of the album is great, Oasis best rock tunes in my opinion, but the album is fading out near the end.
Bag it Up 9/10 -Great opening, I really love this song. It remind us why we love Oasis.
The Turning 9/10- Another awsome hit, better than previous 2nd track songs like shitty Mucky fingers or bad produced Force of Nature. Really interesting.
Waiting for the Rapture 8/10 - another Good one, not as great as other tunes but I cannot complain
Shock of the Lightning 8/10 - Really catchy , fast, and strong sound.
I am Outta time 8/10 - Probably the best or the second best Liam song. I still prefer Born on a Different Cloud. If this song had more lyirics and not so many chorus section it would be excellent. It is a pitty also the solo being a copy of Born on a Different Cloud, not very original for such a great tune as this.
Get off your high horse lady 7/10 - Interesting, but not precisely their best, Noel could arrange better this song...
Falling Down 9/10- Good lyrics, good arrangements, good tune... This is for me the best song in the album
To be where there is life 6/10 A nice try but the results are not so good as the intention.
Ain t got nothing on me 4/10. Shame... I even prefer Meaning of Soul to this...
The Nature of reality 8/10- Andy Bell always have a good song in the pocket and this one is not too bad. Good guitars, very rocky.
Soldier On 7/10- I don't know why they have to finish an album with songs like these when they have Boy with the Blues, which for me it would be a 9/10 ending, but it is what we have here, a tasteless ending..
If this album was recorded by some of my mates i would say, guys you are genious, but being this album from Oasis is really a shame. Better than other stuff around there, but not enough good for Oasis. Sumaryzing, Great 1st Half, Poor 2nd Half. |
